National Hot Rod & Custom Car Show 2018

East of England Arena Peterborough

Making welcome return for its sixth successive year at Peterborough the National Hot Rod & Custom Show again ran alongside the Modified Nationals. Some of the top Hot Rod and Custom cars from around the Country were on display inside the Meguiars Pavilion while outside the showfield catered for the arriving cars for the Show’n’shine. Fantastic sunny weather again saw a big turnout on the showfield on both days with a wide variety of vehicles joining the show. In the cattle sheds there was a display of cars from UK Lowriders who were demonstrating their bouncing and dancing with their specialist suspension systems.

While the cars form the centrepiece the show is also about the lifestyle and culture that goes with them. A large number of traders were in attendance where you could buy all manner of retro clothing and accessories for yourself, your home and your car. Specialist pinstripe artists were also in attendance demonstrating their art on anything from old saws to cars. In the main arena the Mayhem monster truck was available for rides while the Ken Fox Wall of Death was also in attendance all weekend for visitors to enjoy. Adding to the atmosphere was live music on the Rockahula stage throughout both days with some of the top rockabilly bands playing. Making a popular return were French band Bulgarian Yogurt who played last on Saturday afternoon in their own unique style. During the evenings there was more entertainment from live bands Power Child, Jonny Trashed, Kingshakes and Slade UK on Friday and Betty & The Bootleggers and Top Banana Band on Saturday. Both evenings also saw a retro DJ’s playing music from the 50’s and 80’s. Saturday night also saw the Gilded Merkin Burlesque & Cabaret Club in the Cambridge Suite following the live bands.
