For 2022 Cereals- The Arable Event returned to Chrishall Grange Duxford in Cambridgeshire, last held there in 2018. Over the two days’ farmers and workers in the agricultural industry all over the U.K. attended the event to see and learn about the latest developments in arable farming. The event remains the premier arable event for new technologies and advise for growers looking to improve their profitability and crop quality. All the usual features could be found at the event along with some new additions.

Taking the largest part of the event are the purpose planted crop plots where the majority of the leading crop producers can show their latest products. These included winter wheat, barley, beans, wildflower mixes and pea variants. The plots also allow companies to demonstrate the latest pesticides available. Growers were able to meet with company representatives to discuss their best needs and requirements while also comparing what is available to them from different companies. Alongside the practical plots a number of seminars were held over the two days for visitors addressing the current and future challenges the industry faces.

The Syngenta sprays and sprayers arena showcased the latest technologies available for the accurate application of crop protection chemicals. Sprayer technology has been developing at a fair pace and this area allows operators to see that latest products from the majority of the major manufacturers in this area. Both trailed and self-propelled sprayers were demonstrated along with the latest drone technology available in this area. With drainage considered to be the building block of productive farming the National Association of Agricultural Contactors provided a hub at the event where equipment and technology could be demonstrated. They also held a number of seminars on both days related to drainage. New for 2022 and bringing the industry up to date was the Robotics and Automation arena. Here event sponsor Agxeed demonstrated two of their Agbots, one making its public debut the Agbot 2.055SW4. Also being demonstrated in the arena was FarmDroid from the Optica team and a demonstration by the Small Robot Company.

A number of other companies were also present at the event that provide services to the arable agricultural industry. These included estate agents, solicitors, banks and finance companies and media. An off-road course had been built where visitors could test drive the latest vehicles from Izuzu. One of the smaller but very important exhibiters was The Farming Community Network who are a charity and voluntary organisation that support the farming community through difficult times. With mental health becoming more of an issue with more farmers taking their own lives FCN are an important part of the farming industry. The event welcomed 17,000 visitors over the two days. Next year’s event will be held at a new venue, Thoresby Estate in Nottinghamshire on 13th & 14th June. Further information may be found by visiting www.cerealsevent.co.uk
