The Royal Norfolk Show again proved very popular, organised by the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association, with attendance figures around 85,000 over the two days, a ten year high. The show still holds its traditions as an agricultural show at its centre while now also catering for a new audience.

As well as the competitions for livestock, light & heavy horses and agricultural displays visitors were also able to enjoy some 700 trade stands dedicated sports area, an armed forces area, flower show and enjoy the best local produce. In the countryside area there was a new addition for 2019 on Wednesday evening with the Sunset Sounds concert on a purpose built stage in the wooded area. The main arena again proved very popular each day with regular features of heavy horse turnout classes, top class show jumping, The Parachute Regiment Band and RAF Falcons Parachute team. These were joined by a special parade from the Norfolk Young Farmers Clubs showing the history and future of farming in Norfolk, a parade of Rolls Royce and Bentley cars celebrating 100 years of the marque and two daily performances from the Household Cavalry Musical Ride, who proved very popular. Each day saw a grand parade of livestock from the competitions showing the various breeds of cattle, sheep, goats and heavy horses. The first day of the show saw a visit from the Countess of Wessex who was on hand to present the Heygates Country Feeds Team of Five Trophy during the grand parade, this year won by a team of British Simmental. Closing the show on the second day was the traditional closing ceremony which saw participation from all the emergency services along with representation from the armed forces including RAF Marham and from the USAF at RAF Lakenheath. The service also saw the British Legion parade its standards along with the veteran’s associations.

As previously mentioned around the showground were a number of other rings that held the competitions for livestock, light horses and heavy horses and show jumping. A separate report can be found on our site covering the heavy horse classes. At Mr Mawkins farm area visitors were able to meet various breeds of livestock up close. Chat to owners and breeders and hear talks about the rare breeds on display. Among the trade stands there was country clothing, crafts, cars and commercial vehicles and lifestyle stands. A special area provided for attractions and areas of Norfolk to showcase their events and areas to visit during the year. As ever the Adnams Food and Drink Experience proved very popular showcasing a number of local producers including butchers, drinks and cakes with a cookery demonstration area featuring Norfolk chefs and butchers.
